A Silex Multigrill is a powerful, semi-professional contact grill known for its versatility and solid German quality. Although it is widely used in the catering industry, it is also very popular in households (especially for making Turkish specialities).
Below are the main features and applications:
What do you use it for?
The Silex is much more than a standard sandwich maker. It is often called the "Lahmacun machine" because it is ideal for frying:
-
Turkish pizza (Lahmacun) and Pide: The high temperature ensures a perfect, crispy base.
-
Meat and Fish: Think kofte, steak, chicken skewers or prawns.
-
Bread: Paninis, sandwiches and flatbreads (such as naan or pita bread).
-
Vegetables: Fast grilling while preserving vitamins.
-
Baking (with additional baking tray): With an optional deep baking tray (tava), you can even use it to bake, roast or prepare casseroles.
Key specifications
-
High power: Usually around 2,000 watts, making it reach temperature very quickly.
-
Temperature: Adjustable via a thermostat (often in 5 settings), with some models reaching temperatures as high as 250°C (or even higher).
-
Double non-stick coating: Ensures food does not stick and makes the appliance easy to clean with just kitchen paper.
-
Robust design: mostly made of stainless steel (SS) with heavy cast aluminium plates for even heat distribution.
Why is it so popular?
The biggest advantage of a Silex is speed. Because the product is heated from both sides simultaneously (double-contact), the cooking time is often halved compared to an ordinary pan or oven. Moreover, juices and nutrients are better preserved thanks to the rapid searing.
